Food Photography Secrets Revealed

Food porn is not everything we thought it was and just like real porn, everything is staged to perfection. Fresh food would never cut it through hours of photo shoots under warm lights and so food stylists have to reach into their bag of tricks to make the star of the show last. In the series Faking It, working with photographer Dan Matthews and food stylist Jack Sargeson, set designer and art director Sandy Suffield reveals the tricks of the trade when it comes to emphasizing real food’s ingredients to make them look runway ready. From scoops of ice cream made from mashed potatoes and lard to spraying tiramisu with a can of gold spraypaint, food stylists are crafty and absolute masters of improvisation.
