The mesmerizing arrangement of sand that you’re looking at was carefully created by the Sisyphus machine invented by artist Bruce Shapiro. The kinetic mechanism uses magnets to manipulate metallic balls around a surface of sand to come up with breathtakingly beautiful patterns. The artist spent nearly 25 years coming up with the code for his impressive machine. That certainly is a long time; but as the results show, it was definitely worth it.
