Photographer Captures Tourist Eyesores in Greece

Looking more like the Jersey Shore than the magical country of Greece, Marinos E. Tsagkarakis captures the remnants of the tourist industry in the poignant series Paradise Inn. The Greek photographer highlights the eyesores made up of kitschy signs and novelty items littering and marring his native country’s urban landscapes. The name is a tribute to all the devalued paradise lost for the sake of making money during tourist season. According to Tsagkarakis: “This ongoing project, which started in 2012, aims to highlight the consequences of massive and uncontrolled tourist development…the falsification of identity and cultural heritage, the violation of the natural environment, and finally the desolation that occurs after the peak season.”
