Veteran Art Project Shows Diversity of Those Who Serve

For those on the outside looking in, a person in uniform not only commands authority but also speaks of commitment, loyalty, and dedication. Stripped of their individuality, Devin Mitchell sets out to explore the real people behind the suit in a moving series called The Veteran Art Project. The photographer and ASU sociology student spent 3.5 months visiting veterans in their homes to capture them in formal uniform and in their civilian clothes sometimes showing a juxtaposition between the perception and the real lives they live outside of it. His ultimate goal is to eventually capture 10,000 images of our service men and women around the nation.
