A Sidewalk Divided
Admittedly, we have seen our fair share of people texting and walking into lampposts or ambling while talking on their cellphones while the rest of the public weave around them. To heed the call, National Geographic launches a behavioral experiment for their new series Mind Over Masses. They halved a block-long sidewalk with paint into a “No Cellphones” and a “Cellphones” lane with a cautionary “Walk in this lane at your own risk” lettering for the latter. The signage at the nation’s capital is a temporary one but depending on the filmed reactions of the pedestrians, the quirky concept might just catch on.
