Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Surprises NYC Commuters With an Impromptu Concert
A select few of NYC’s commuters got a special treat as they got to be front and center at an impromptu mini-concert that took place right in the aisle of the bus they were on. Nothing looked out of the ordinary as the Grammy-nominated duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis boarded the bus carrying a boombox. A second later, Lewis turns up the tune to the megahit “Can’t Hold Us” and Macklemore proceeded to rap which instantly got the audience smiling incredulously. Soon enough rolls of paper towels were being tossed around and everyone was on their feet clapping to the beat. The stint was part of the GRAMMY Awards’ “Music Unleashes Us” campaign in which TBWA\Chiat\Day Creative Director Rick Utzinger adds “This campaign celebrates the undeniable human truth that we are powerless against music. It will tap our toes and shake our hips for us, whether we want to or not.” This was certainly the truth for the varied audience whom, if they didn’t know Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, they sure do now.
