Recreating Stonehenge With Steel

Bureau A recreates an ancient and indisputably one of the most recognizable landmarks known to mankind using nothing but blue shipping containers. Blending the neolithic and post-industrial, the Swiss architecture firm unveiled ‘Steelhenge’ in Geneva’s ‘B.I.G,’ the first biennale celebrating independent art spaces, for what many have referred to quite fittingly as ‘cargotecture.’ With the event restricted to just one weekend over the past summer, the group had to think of something compact with their limited budget. Using a crane to move all 45 massive containers to form the concentric layout, the entire structure was built in a day and provided a creative and effective space for participants and attendees to congregate around in.
